Albert Uy, Class of 1990
CURRENT LOCATION:
Santa Barbara, California (when in the U.S.)
FAMILY LIFE:
Single. Living with my girlfriend in Santa Barbara, a
fellow biologist.
EDUCATION:
A.B. in Integrative Biology from University of California, Berkeley (1994)
Ph.D. in Biology, University of Maryland (2000).
EMPLOYMENT:
I'm currently a postdoctoral research fellow at UCSB, under a fellowship
from the National Science Foundation and the National Geographic Society.
My research interests include: 1) the evolution of mating systems and 2) the
processes involved in the formation of species (biodiversity). I spend half
the year in New Guinea, Panama, Costa Rica or Ecuador, conducting field work
on several species of birds (paradise kingfishers and bowerbirds in New
Guinea, and manakins in Central and South America). I am also collaborating
with folks at UC Berkeley, reconstructing the evolutionary relationships of
these birds using genetic markers...blah, blah, blah.
HOBBIES:
I love reading, and playing the guitar. Also, hiking and backpacking, when
not doing field work.
