I just wanted to send a note to any of you high school students who aspire to be physicians. Don't let difficulty in any high school science class deter you from deciding to pursue a career in the biological sciences. I struggled in one particular high school science class (chemistry) due to the poor presentation of the subject and prejudice of the teacher against me. [Note: this teacher no longer teaches at Saugus.] This experience initially discouraged me and made me think that maybe I shouldn't pursue a career in biology or chemistry. Needless to say, that thought was totally wrong--there is no doubt in my mind that I will be able to earn both an MD and a PhD degree. So stick to your guns and power through--what separates the people who are medical students and those who are unsuccessful is motivation and desire.
