Timothy R. Groth, Class of 1978
CURRENT LOCATION:
FAMILY LIFE:
In 1995, I finally got married. Cindy is from Texas
and is a blessing from God. We don't have children but we have a puppy.
Cindy is a graduate of the University of Texas and works for Allstate
Insurance as a commercial claims adjuster.
EDUCATION:
I initially trained as an Aircraft Avionics
Technician. Later, I retrained in Aircraft Maintenance Management. I am
currently working as the Wing Aircraft Maintenance Analyst for the Third
Marine Aircraft Wing located near San Diego. We operate and maintain around
360 aircraft, both fixed wing and helicopters. I started taking college
courses in 1980 and am trying to break the record for the longest time in
school. Two more classes and I earn an A.S. in Marine Science Technology.
Somehow overseas duty kept getting in the way of education. This year, I've
earned a Vocational Certificate in Marine Science. I've got tons of military
education.
EMPLOYMENT:
I'm still in the Marines, a Gunnery Sergeant. Since I
have over 20 years of active service I can retire any time at 55% pay. I am
waiting to see if a promotion is coming. If not, I will wrap it up in May of
2000.
HOBBIES AND INTERESTS:
We love to sail and have a 37 foot sailboat in
Oceanside. I'm an amateur woodworker and have a small shop at home. We
gutted our boat and are in the process of refitting it. I plan on attending
the Northwest School of Wooden Boat Building in Port Townsend, Washington,
after I leave the service. Also, I'm a licensed Coast Guard Merchant Marine
Officer on vessels up to 50 Tons. I expect to work on or around boats. I
guess I should have gone in the Navy!
