Trigonometry
Mr. Eaton
Room U-7
THE COURSE: Trigonometry uses the techniques that students have previously learned from the study of algebra and geometry. The trigonometric functions studied are defined geometrically rather than in terms of algebraic equations. Facility with these functions as well as the ability to prove basic identities regarding them is especially important for students intending to study calculus, more advanced mathematics, physics and other sciences, and engineering in college.
BOOK: Trigonometry, by Larson and Hostetler.
THE FORMAT: The class will be comprised of discussion, lecture, demonstration, and investigation. Scientific calculator use is encouraged and a graphing calculator would be helpful. Graphing calculators may not be used on some tests and or quizzes. Notebooks are not required but strongly suggested.
YOUR GRADE: Tests will be worth 150 points, quizzes will be worth 50 points, homework and warm-up will be worth 3 points and any other projects will be about 20 points. Your final will be about 350 points.
GRADING: A=90-100%, B=80-89%, C=70-79%, D=60-69%, F=0-59%. BEHAVIOR: Saugus High School rules are in effect at all times. Simply 1) be on time 2) do your best 3) behave yourself. Specifically, no hats, no gum, and be kind. Tardiness will result in a 30-minute detention to be served in J-5, failure to do so will result in a step on the opportunity room referral and another detention
MAKE UP WORK: Homework will be given the same number of days to make up as you were absent or by arrangement with Mr. Eaton. Make up tests and quizzes by arrangement with Mr. Eaton in J -7 during posted detention hours. I have a web page that you can refer to for assignments when absent. Grades will be updated on the website after tests. The site is www.sauguscenturions.com/keaton
CHEATING: Zero on the assignment, conference with the teacher, notify parent or guardian, and referral to school administration.
