not simply good; be good for something." Henry David Thoreau
·
Students who miss class are expected to see the teacher as soon as
possible to learn about missed work or activities.
·
Late work that is submitted without a teacher extension or an extension
due to excused absences will be graded for no credit. Although no credit is
awarded for late work, students may find it worthwhile to successfully complete
and turn in late work or missing assignments. For some assignments students
will be given a chance to make up lost points.
Late work or missing assignments that would
have received a C or better will allow the student to do an extra credit
assignment worth the same number of points as the late or missing assignment.
Extra credit assignments must be approved by the teachers.
·
Some class activities cannot be made up. Absent students will be given
an option to do an extra credit assignment to learn the material and earn the
equivalent points.
·
Flexibility: The teacher will generally grant extensions to assignment
deadlines if the student asks several days in advance. Much sympathy and
support will be provided to students who communicate with the teacher about
problems before deadlines arrive.
·
Students are to adhere to the attendance policy as established by
·
Anyone who enters the classroom after the bell has rung will be
considered tardy. The SHS Tardy Lock Out
program will be used with vim and vigor in the AP team classes.
·
A=90-100%; B=80-89%; C=70-79%; D=60-69%; F=below 60%
·
Class participation will count for up to 5% of the final semester
grade.
·
A score of a 3 on the AP exam will change either or both semester grades
of D or F to a C- or D- respectively.
Scores of 4 and 5 will earn students a 2.5% or 5% respectively. These percentage points may be applied to one
semester grade or divided and applied to both semester grades.
·
Extra credit points will be offered with some units and assignments.
Also, students may approach the teacher for extra credit projects. These usually involve reading books or
articles and reporting back to the teacher or class.
·
Extra credit is only available to students with ZERO missing
assignments.
·
All extra credit for the semester is forfeited if a student finishes
the semester with any missing assignments or is caught cheating during the
semester.
Students
are responsible for doing their own work. The following are examples of
unacceptable work habits:
expect to see significantly
different final products from each student.
If
students violate any of the above expectations, they will receive a zero on the
project, assignment, or exam, they will forfeit all extra credit for the
semester, and semester grades will not be rounded up. AP students will also forfeit any earned
grade changes normally earned by scoring a 3, 4, or 5 on the AP US History
Exam.
