AP Français

Class Description:
French IV/AP A/B is a year-long class which builds on the skills acquired in French III A/B. Emphasis is placed on improving and refining all French skills with a goal of passing the Advanced Placement Examination in French Language. Because no single textbook exists at this level we will use four different books. Une Fois pour toutes, Moments littéraires and En bonne forme will be issued to the students. AP French – A Guide for the Language Course will be used in class. The first three books provide a thorough review of grammar and an overview of great French literature. The latter book will provide practice for the AP Exam. A small, recently published French-English/English-French dictionary and the use of a cassette player/recorder will be necessary for the class. (For those unable to obtain these, both will be available in class and before and after school, but may not be taken home.) A paperback verb book will also be helpful. At this level students are expected to speak only French in class. Those students who plan to take the AP Exam (those enrolled in AP rather than French IV) should plan on spending some extra time in individual study beyond the regular class assignments. Extra reading in French will be of enormous benefit to the students, so I will check out books to those wishing to avail themselves of my private “library” at any time during the year.

From Me...
I am nearly always in my room before school and after school.  Students needing help may arrange to meet me for help.  My goal is to help all students to succeed in their study of French.

Re-taking tests and quizzes:In order to encourage mastery of the subject students will be required to keep a section of their notebook making note of all mistakes from tests and quizzes.  A student wishing to retake a test or quiz - for the new grade - must turn in to me each of the errors from a given test or quiz with the corrections written out 5 times each within 2 days of the return of the exam.  That student may then make arrangements with me to take a make-up test/quiz outside of class time. This is usually done on Wednesdays at lunch. This make-up exam will cover the same materials but in a different form.  The second grade will be entered into the rollbook in the place of the original.  A student may retake a test or quiz more than once, but will be required to do review work on a classroom computer - outside of class time - after the first re-take.
