Standards for World Language Learning
Standard 1.1: Students engage in conversations, provide and obtain information, express feelings and emotions, and exchange opinions
Standard 1.2: Students understand and interpret written and spoken language on a variety of topics
Standard 1.3: Students present information, concepts, and ideas to an audience of listeners or readers on a variety of topics.
Standard 2.1: Students demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between the practices and perspectives of the culture studied
Standard 2.2: Students demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between the products and perspectives of the culture studied
Standard 3.1: Students reinforce and further their knowledge of other disciplines through the foreign language
Standard 3.2: Students acquire information and recognize the distinctive viewpoints that are only available through the foreign language and its cultures
Standard 4.1: Students demonstrate understanding of the nature of language through comparisons of the language studied and their own
Standard 4.2: Students demonstrate understanding of the concept of culture through comparisons of the cultures studied and their own.
Standard 5.1: Students use the language both within and beyond the school setting
Standard 5.2: Students show evidence of becoming life-long learners by using the language for personal enjoyment and enrichment.
Grading
1. Class participation is required and will be counted as a part of the grade.
2. Homework will usually be assigned 5 times per week and must be completed on time. No late homework will be accepted. For excused absences one day per day of absence will be allowed to complete make-up work. A quarterly grade will be assigned for completion of assignments.
3. Quizzes will be given approximately once per week and will be both written and oral. (Again work missed due to an excused absence must be made up within one week unless special arrangements are made) NO WORK MAY BE MADE UP FOR TRUANCIES OR UNEXCUSED ABSENCES.
4. Anyone who cheats or helps another student to cheat will receive a grade of zero for the assignment, quiz or test. Parents will also be informed.
Tests = 35% Homework = 10% Final Exam = 10%
Quizzes = 35% Participation = 10%
A = 90%
B = 80%
C = 70%
D = 60%
PLEASE NOTE: As mentioned above this is a YEAR-LONG class! Students who earn a grade lower than a C- will continue to be enrolled in the class, but university requirements can be still be satisfied by completing a subsequent semester with a grade of C or better – referred to as “vFebruary 11, 2008 12:45 PMl be an intervention class after school one day per week. Struggling students should attend.
