Ms. Tolisano's Website
revised 8-31-10

Welcome to English 9!

Throughout the semester, please refer to this website for information regarding the class. I will often post grades, calendars, and other information that will help you to be successful. Also, I will post helpful links to various websites not only for extra credit assignments, but also for independent study. I welcome all suggestions on how to improve the website and additional links that you found to be helpful in understanding the material.

The purpose of the course is to learn to read and write more effectively. Therefore, we will be writing and reading extensively using a number of different formats. We will identify and react to the key ideas and underlying assumptions found in models of good writing. We will also deal with grammar, punctuation, diction, structure, and style along with techniques for composing and revising areas where students in the class seem to be having difficulties.

About Ms. Tolisano

Originally, I grew up in Avon, Connecticut. I graduated from Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania in 1998 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and earned my teaching credential. Since I enjoy traveling, I spent a semester abroad taking literature classes at the University College in London. Soon after graduating, I moved out to Santa Clarita Valley where I accepted my first teaching position at Saugus High School. After moving here, I attended California State University, Northridge in 2004 where I earned a Masters Degree in English Education. In November of 2009, I became a National Board certificated teacher. Currently, I teach 9th grade English and run the Saugus Yearbook program on campus. I’m also working on a Masters Degree in School Counseling through the University of La Verne. When I am not teaching or going back to school, I enjoy reading, photography, traveling, and walking my mini dachshund named Mimi.
