Course Description

Dear students and parents:

Welcome to Algebra 1A! This class will cover Algebra Standards – including learning about equations, functions, inequalities, and statistical analysis. Students in this class will develop algebraic thinking, problem solving and analytical skills while building the necessary foundation for the upper level math electives, while preparing them for Geometry.

Throughout the Common Core math curriculum at Saugus, we will be emphasizing the following 8 Mathematical Practices:

  1. Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them
  2. Reason abstractly and quantitatively
  3. Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others
  4. Model with mathematics
  5. Use appropriate tools strategically
  6. Attend to precision
  7. Look for and make use of structure
  8. Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning

Algebra is an essential part to mathematical and life learning. I hope we can discover together how it applies to our daily lives. Please take the time to review this syllabus. It contains information that will be helpful to successfully complete the course.
