Algebra 1 Prep (Period 2)
Course Description
This is a one semester course in which we will strengthen
and reinforce mathematical content and concepts that are critical for success in Common Core Algebra 1, and
build the necessary foundation for the upper level
math Common Core curriculum. Students who master
Algebra 1 Prep will gain experience with manipulating integers and fractions, graphing and writing equations of
lines, solving equations, graphing and solving systems of equations, and solving word problems
. Throughout
the Common Core math curriculum at Saugus High, we will be emphasizing the following 8 Mathematical
Practices:
1.
Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them.
2.
Reason abstractly and quantitatively.
3.
Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others.
4.
Model with mathematics.
5.
Use appropriate tools strategically.
6.
Attend to precision.
7.
Look for and make use of structure.
8.
Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning.
Algebra is an essential part to mathematics and life learning. I hope we can discover together how it applies to
